About Us
The Houston-Smithers Rebroadcasting Society was formed in 1977 to provide a second TV channel for Smithers, Telkwa, Houston and surrounding rural areas. We began with two 100 watt transmitters; one on Mt. Harry Davis ( Houston ) and one on Tyhee Mountain ( Telkwa ).
The system has expanded since 1977 to include the following TV and Radio transmitters.
Hudson Bay Mountain:
Channel 10 – Global BC (BCTV)
Channel 20 – Knowledge Network
88.1 Mhz – CBC Radio Two
Tyhee Mountain :
Channel 13 – CTV BC
Channel 31 – Knowledge Network
Mt. Harry Davis:
Channel 8 – Global BC (BCTV)
Channel 18 – Knowledge Network
104.7 Mhz – CBC Radio Two
We have also added a weather station to our Hudson Bay site
to provide weather forecasts to the Smithers area.
Additionally, we host relay transmitters for the Provincial Emergency Program, BV Amateur Radio Club, and Cybernet’s wireless internet service.
We are funded with an annual grant of $50,000 from the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako. This comes from taxpayers living in the Smithers, Telkwa, Houston, Topley and portions of the surrounding rural areas. This amounts to, on average, about $5.00 per household per year.
